Klopp has pulled off the bargain of the season

Considering the eye-watering fees thrown around last summer, the £8m they paid Hull for Andrew Robertson went quite under the radar.

But the young Scot has been an utter revelation.

The man the Kop call ‘Robertson Carlos’ has started 14 of their last 15 games, making the left-back position his own.

He even bullied ex-Red and public enemy number one Raheem Sterling relentlessly throughout the 4-3 win over Man City last month.

Robertson is one of the bargains of the season anyway, but when you factor in another deal from last summer he was effectively brought in for free.

Liverpool also sold Kevin Stewart – a midfielder who rarely threatened the first-team squad – to Hull for the same price Robertson was signed for.

Stewart made just nine appearances last season, mostly as a substitute, so to get £8m for him looks like a real steal.

Liverpool have struggled to find a consistent left back since John Arne-Riise’s best days at the club – and even the Norwegian was more of a winger.

The likes of Fabio Aurelio, Andrea Dossena and Jose Enrique have all tried and failed to properly settle.

Robertson, despite a slow start this season, has become one of the Reds’ most consistent performers, with his no-nonsense style endearing himself to the Anfield faithful.

His arrival has even appeared to galvanise Alberto Moreno, whose performances have drastically improved with greater competition.

Robertson looks to have solved one of the Reds’ longest standing problems and could become their left back for years to come.
