Newcastle’s Ayoze Perez put a cross into Bournemouth’s box but it looked destined for Begovic’s hands.
However it was at that point the transformation took place.
Next thing you know Gayle was putting the ball into an empty net to make it 2-0 to Newcastle.
Unfortunately the second the ball hit the back of the net Begovic’s invisibility wore off.
However Begovic had his team-mates to thank for not finishing on the losing side.
Adam Smith got the comeback started with 80 minutes on the clock when he smashed a shot in off the crossbar.
Former Newcastle midfielder Dan Gosling completed the turnaround in the 89th minute to save Begovic’s blushes.
It’s been a dodgy start to the weekend for goalkeepers.
Between drinking while the game’s going on and dropping your World Cup starting spot into your own goal there’s been no shortage of mistakes.
Maybe it’s the cold weather.
