Man United fans think they’ve seen the future.
United lost 2-0 to Steven Gerrard’s Liverpool side in the UEFA Youth League.
The result means United are now out of Europe at that level, which Jose Mourinho will be hoping isn’t a bad omen for the senior side.
But it wasn’t all bad news. One youngster was particularly impressive during the defeat.
Tahith Chong caught the eye in his latest strong performance for United’s youth side.
The 18-year-old Curacao-born Dutch Under-19 winger had United fans raving on social media.
Chong left Feyenoord to sign for United in July 2016.
His form has been so good since joining that Mourinho was reportedly considering calling him up to the senior side to face Huddersfield earlier in the month.
Mourinho was in the stands to see the winger score a sublime goal on his Under-23 debut against Spurs, so he knows what he can offer.
His latest first-team audition won’t have done his chances of making a senior debut soon any harm.
With two Champions League games and fixtures against Chelsea and Liverpool coming up in less than a month Mourinho’s options will be stretched.
Just don’t mistake his haircut for Marouane Fellaini.
