The Brazilian football authorities are likely to hit both sides hard in what will no doubt be a busy week for the country’s top brass.

Amazingly, they also have to deal with the aftermath of a fiery derby that was abandoned on the same day.

Vitoria’s clash with Bahia saw five players sent off following a mass-brawl

And as tempers continued to flare, another four were sent for an early bath as the referee had no choice but to call the match off with 11 minutes remaining.

Bruno Bispo was the guilty party as he became the fifth Vitoria player to walk, with teams needing at least seven players on the field to continue.

Denilson opened the scoring for the hosts in their Bahia state championship clash but Bahia’s Vinicius netted a penalty equaliser at the start of the second half.

He danced in front of the home supporters, sparking a melee as punches came in from both sets of players.
