EARLY BATHS ALL ROUND

Brazilian derby abandoned after NINE red cards and eight yellows

It's fair to say that Vitoria v Bahia got a bit tasty...

We all used to do this when playing FIFA back in the day.

But it’s very rare a real professional game of football is abandoned because of too many red cards.

Vitoria v Bahia was prematurely ended by the match officials after the referee sent off nine players in an ill-tempered Salvador derby.

Seven yellow cards had been shown before the game descended into chaos five minutes into the second half.

The hosts were winning 1-0 until the 50th minute when Bahia were awarded a penalty.

Vinicius converted the spot-kick before celebrating with a dance in front of Vitoria’s ultras — we say dance, he thrusted at them.

This didn’t go down too well with Vitoria’s players.

Goalkeeper Fernando Miguel was the first to confront the goalscorer but it was centre-back Kanu who took things to the next level.

The 33-year-old unleashed a volley of punches, landing more than Chris Eubank Jr managed in 12 rounds against George Groves.

This sparked a mass brawl that ended with seven players being dismissed, including two Bahia substitutes.

The sparsely populated game continued until the 81st minute when two more Vitoria players were sent off, leaving the hosts with just six players on the pitch, one under the minimum requirement.

The game is set to be investigated with further punishments likely for both teams but as it stands the Bahia have been awarded a 3-0 victory, despite having four men sent off themselves.

Madness.
