Liverpool’s goalkeeping conundrum goes on.
Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius have alternated mediocrity in recent seasons, with the latter faring a bit of late after being made number one by Jurgen Klopp.
But the Reds have been dealt a blow in their quest to sign Roma star Alisson, who is reportedly in talks over a new deal.
According to Calciomercato, the Brazilian shot-stopper could be slapped with a release clause worth a whopping £80m.
While they also claim that Alisson is seeking close to £4.5million-a-year including bonuses, a significant increase on his current £1.3m salary.
Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are also believed to be interested in the former Internacional ace.
But it is understood that he is happy in the Italian capital as he continues to shine in his second season with the Giallorossi.
Alisson has featured in all 24 Serie A matches this term, keeping an impressive 10 top-flight clean sheets.
Roma goalkeeping coach Roberto Negrisolo recently lauded the talents of Alisson, where he claimed he is worth as much as Lionel Messi.
He said: “He is the No 1 of No 1s. He is worth as much as Messi because he is as important as Messi.
“He is the type of goalkeeper which can define an era.
“Is Alisson worth €50m (£45m)? Don’t be silly, he’s worth far more than that.”
While he also added: “You can’t even compare someone like Gianluigi Donnarumma with him. Alisson is extraordinary.
“The way he behaves in the goal, he reminds me of Dino Zoff. I’d also compare him to Michel Preud-Homme, who had the class of someone born to be a goalkeeper.”
