Alexandre Lacazette had a day to forget yesterday.
The French forward squandered two promising chances as Spurs beat Arsenal in the North London derby at Wembley by a single goal.
The ex-Lyon poacher could have rescued a point in the dying moments from a one-on-one opportunity but pulled his finish wide of the post — much to the annoyance of Arsene Wenger and Gunners fans everywhere.
One fan was so incensed by the missed chance that he decided to burn a shirt with Lacazette’s name printed on the back.
Twitter user Brusk posted photos of the fan in question’s ceremonial burning…
Seems like a bit of an overreaction.
That shirt would have cost a fair whack as well.
The derby was a tale of two forwards with Harry Kane bagging his seventh goal in as many league games against Arsenal.
Spurs’ talisman looked the picture of confidence once again, shrugging off a glaring missed header earlier in the game to rise above Laurent Koscielny and head Ben Davies’ cross into the bottom corner for the game’s only goal.
In contrast, Lacazette appeared visibly despondent after mishitting a volley soon after coming on and perhaps it was a lack of confidence that contributed to miscued finish when one-on-one with Hugo Lloris.
The North London derby is one of the most anticipated fixtures in the Premier League calendar but even so, burning a shirt feels a bit extreme.
It’s not like he signed for Spurs after the final whistle.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan was also slated for his performance.
The Armenian midfielder reverted to his Man United form, giving the ball away and failing to provide Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with the quality of service he received against Everton.
But at least nobody tried to start a barbeque with his shirt.
