This is quite the claim for a legend of the game.
Samuel Eto’o reckons Mohamed Salah has been as good as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and the world’s other top players in recent times.
The Egyptian winger arrived in Liverpool off the back of a wonderful season with Roma and has improved further, flourishing in the intensity of the Premier League.
Salah has scored 21 league goals this season with only Harry Kane ahead of him in the race for the Golden Boot.
A host of former African Player of the Year winners including Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o and El Hadji Diouf have favourably compared the current winner with the world’s very best players.
Eto’o said: “He has probably been one of the best players in the world.
“His performances for Liverpool have been great and, for me, I am always glad to see African players at the top level.
“He deserves his award and hopefully he has more years like this.”
The 25-year-old was ditched by Chelsea in 2016.
Salah only played 19 games for the Blues but Didier Drogba saw enough then to hint at the Egyptian’s current form.
“He has always been a good player,” Drogba said. “We all knew he had it in him.
“Maybe now he works with managers who are more willing to give him more responsibility.
“If you look with his national team too, he is maybe the biggest player they have.
“In Italy, he did very well with a big club and now he has gone to England and he is doing even better. He has been fantastic.
“I think he has got it in him. He is someone who you will respect if you share a dressing room with him.
“You expect a captain to put all the players together and you can see he does that.
“He seems quiet but being quiet does not mean he is not a leader. He leads by example.”
What a season it’s been for Salah… and there’s plenty more to come before he’s unleashed upon the World Cup.
