Benevento have found it pretty hard going amongst the big boys in Serie A this season.
The Italian minnows have won just twice all campaign, racked up a measly seven points and are technically the worst team in Europe’s top five leagues.
Even a last-minute equaliser from their goalkeeper against AC Milan couldn’t inspire an upturn in fortunes.
But they’re going for it in the transfer market in a bid to pull off an unlikely escape act from relegation.
After Bacary Sagna agreed to join the Serie A basement side for the rest of the season, Benevento are going after two of his former team-mates.
According to Calciomercato, they’re looking to add Samir Nasri and Alex Song – both free agents – as well in the coming days.
Manchester City misfit Nasri spent just six months at Antalyaspor this season before terminating his contract last week.
And Song left Rubin Kazan over a wage dispute and was even training with Arsenal last week to help build his fitness levels.
It would mean three of Arsenal’s 2010/11 squad are back together again attempting to pull off the most improbably escape mission in Serie A history.
Emmanuel Frimpong, Sebastien Squillaci and Nicklas Bendtner should all expect calls over the next week then…
