ARSENAL have failed with a deadline day raid for West Brom captain Jonny Evans.
The Gunners were looking to add the centre-back to their ranks after completing a club-record deal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
But Arsene Wenger was unable to meet West Brom’s asking price, leaving him empty-handed with less than four hours remaining in the window.
Arsenal were in the market for a new defender this month, with Evans high on their list of targets.
Manchester City had also been pursuing the North Ireland international after missing out on him last summer.
But Pep Guardiola eventually plumped to spend a club-record £57million on Aymeric Laporte instead, leaving Arsenal as sole runners for Evans’ signature.

However, Alan Pardew was clearly reluctant to lose his key man and slapped on a price-tag which made Gunners chiefs recoil in horror.
