KEEP IT IN THE FAMILY

Monaco star Fabinho’s wife Rebeca Tavares has joined the club’s women’s team

The Brazilian midfielder's wife has joined the women's team amidst rumours he could leave the club

It looks increasingly likely that Monaco midfielder Fabinho could be on his way out of the club very soon.

The Brazil international is reportedly looking for a “new challenge”, with Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain consistently linked with him.

So it’s perhaps a little awkward that his wife has just sealed a move to the club’s women’s team.

That’s right, Fabinho’s missus – Rebeca Tavares – has joined AS Monaco Feminin, becoming their first signing of the window.

And, of course, the good, cynical people of Twitter believe it’s just a ploy to keep him at the club.

Hmm.

Since winning the Ligue 1 title last season, Monaco have seen the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva, Benjamin Mendy and Tiemoue Bakayoko all clinch big transfers away from the club, while Thomas Lemar is consistently linked with a move to Arsenal or Liverpool.

And speaking to Brazilian outlet Lancenet earlier this week, Fabinho strongly hinted he could be next.

He said: “If there is something good for me, maybe a league change or a club with a bigger structure, with bigger ambitions, I’d look favourably on that.

“My story at Monaco has been good, I managed to win a title so I think my cycle here may be ending.

“I know the vision of the club is to try to stay in second place and win a spot in the Champions League and not sign players, but launch younger players in football.

“I feel I have been through this project: I arrived as an unknown, I made my name at the club, I have won things, so maybe I need something new to have new challenges.”
