Man City break Dutch club’s transfer record with move for 20-year-old defender

Man City have signed 20-year-old defender Philippe Sandler from PEC Zwolle in a deal that represents the Dutch club's biggest sale

Man City have been involved in a record-breaking deal. Nothing new there then.

But this time City haven’t shelled out millions on a third full-back, or reserve centre-back.

Instead they’ve spent just €3million on a player.

City have agreed a deal for 20-year-old defender Philippe Sandler from Dutch side PEC Zwolle, according to De Telegraaf.

When the deal goes through it will be the biggest sale in Zwolle’s history, eclipsing the amount that saw Ben Rienstra move to AZ in 2015.

Sandler, who is comfortable playing in the centre of defense or midfield, moved to Zwolle from Ajax’s academy in the summer of 2016.

He was part of a talented age group alongside current Ajax starter Donny van de Beek but left in search of first-team football.

He’s picked up four caps for the Dutch Under-20 side and has made 11 Eredivise appearances for Zwolle this season.

Can you guess who he’s represented by? Yep, that’s right, Mino ‘moneybags’ Raiola.

Sandler, who reportedly turned down offers from across Europe to sign for City, will spend the rest of the campaign at Zwolle.

After that there are already plans in motion to loan him out to another team next season.

Chances of him ever making a Premier League appearance for City?
