Burnley want Arsenal defender Rob Holding on loan.
Boss Sean Dyche has enquired about taking Holding for the rest of the season to compete with centre-backs Ben Mee and James Tarkowski.
But Gunners chief Arsene Wenger has not made a decision on the 22-year-old and will only make up his mind if he lands West Brom’s £25million centre-half Jonny Evans.
Wenger is in pole position for Evans after Manchester City switched attentions to Athletic Bilbao defender Aymeric Laporte.
And the Arsenal boss may then allow Holding out – he has played most of his games this season in the cups but has also been given Premier League games recently.
Dyche is willing to give the ex-England Under-21 international a chance to impress at Burnley after relying on two centre-backs for most of the campaign.
Burnley are on the hope following a great season, and have been boosted by Dyche’s commitment to a new four-and-a-half year deal.
The Clarets have already landed Aaron Lennon on a loan deal from Everton.
But they could lose Ashley Barnes before Wednesday’s deadline following interest from Chelsea.
Antonio Conte wants a target man and may target the forward should he fail to land Edin Dzeko from Roma.
