Newcastle have the chance to snatch Brazil forward Luan under the nose of Liverpool.
The 24-year-old has been offered to Toon bosses in a sensational January swoop for Rafa Benitez.
Luan’s displays for Gremio has earned him caps for Brazil and sparked interest from the Premier League.
Kop boss Jurgen Klopp has been linked with the Olympic winner but Newcastle could land him for £17.5million if they move before the window closes.
Benitez is desperate to freshen up his attack and moved for Feyenoord striker Nicolai Jorgensen last week, but could not thrash out a deal.
Watford captain Troy Deeney is also under consideration as he may be allowed to leave Vicarage Road.
West Brom have also been tracking Deeney to lead their fight against relegation.
Newcastle have this week rejected Brighton’s approaches for Aleksandar Mitrovic.
The giant striker is out of favour in the North East and Rafa Benitez is willing to let him go.
But the bid received by the Magpies’ Premier League rivals was below their £15million valuation.
Mitrovic wants out of Newcastle in order to try and cement his place at this summer’s World Cup.
