Merson slammed Claude Puel’s decision to make 10 changes for the game as ‘disgraceful’.

In a passionate rant on Soccer Saturday Merson fumed: “I think it’s disgraceful. I really do.

“I think this is the one team in the whole of the Premier League, bar the top six, that can’t get into Europe and can’t get relegated.

“This is it, the FA Cup. I mean it’s unbelievable. They play a weakened team and they get an extra game.

“If I was a Leicester fan… it’s a joke, an absolute joke.”

Only Harry Maguire kept his place from the Leicester side that beat Watford 2-0 seven days ago to go seventh in the Premier League.

In came Danny Simpson and Christian Fuchs, who were both vital players during Leicester’s Premier Leageu title-winning campaign, Euro 2016 winner Adrien Silva and three-time Europa League champion Vincente Iborra.

Sickening. Absolutely sickening.

But, in a shock turn of events, in turns out Puel knows more about football management than Merson.

Debutant Fousseni Diabate scored after nine minutes with a goal that will give him a welcome boost of confidence after arriving from Ligue 2 side Gazalec Ajaccio.

Kelechi Iheanacho then added two goals to put Leicester 3-0 to the good with 29 minutes on the clock.

With four minutes left Diabate scored his second to make it 4-1 after Peterborough pulled one back through Andrew Hughes.

Then Wilfred Ndidi scored Leicester’s fifth in injury time following more sensational work from Diabate.

So, far from being a ‘disgrace’, Puel’s decision to give several players some much needed game time turned out to be pretty inspired.
