And Sport Bild report he has been told he can leave in January as he searches for the regular game time which would give him a chance of making Spain’s World Cup squad.

Barta, 27, is expected to seek a return to his homeland, but he will no doubt have suitors in the Premier League.

He joined Dortmund in 2016, having progressed through the Barcelona academy.

Bartra was part of Spain’s Euro 2016 squad, but didn’t feature and has not played for La Roja in over a year.

However, he knows that, without regular game time, he has no hope of making Julen Lopetegui’s 23-man squad.

Neven Subotic has also been told he can leave the Westfalenstadion this month.

The Serb, 29, was part of the incredible defence which reached the 2013 Champions League final, but has barely featured this season.
