If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again.
Remember last summer when everyone thought Swansea’s loan deal for Renato Sanches was seen as the best bit of business of the transfer window?
And then he got on the pitch and completely forgot how to play football.
He even played a pass to the advertising hoardings…
Well, you’ll be pleased to know that the Sanches debacle has not put the Swans off going big again this transfer window.
Multiple sources are reporting that Swansea are in ‘advanced talks’ with Atletico Madrid forward Kevin Gameiro.
French journalist Romain Collet-Gaudin claims a transfer fee of approximately €30million is being discussed and that negotiations are ongoing.
The Premier League strugglers were previously linked with a double raid of Atletico but have cooled their interest in Nicolas Gaitan due to the Argentine’s wages demands.
Gameiro however, is keen on a move away from the Spanish capital in search of regular football so that he has a chance of making France’s 23-man World Cup squad.
Diego Simeone has Antoine Griezmann, Diego Costa, Fernando Torres, Angel Correa, Vitolo and Yannick Carrasco available in attack, meaning Gameiro has fallen down the pecking order in recent weeks.
The 30-year-old forward was recalled to the French team in 2016 after an impressive season with Sevilla, in which he scored ten goals in the club’s successful Europa League campaign, and 29 in all competitions.
Gameiro’s conversion rate in La Liga with Atletico is impressive as well, having scored 15 goals in 38 appearances, many of which were as a substitute.
He also counts Strasbourg, Lorient and PSG as former clubs.
Is Gameiro the man to save Swansea from near-certain relegation?
