REAL MADRID are ready to pay Mauro Icardi’s £97.8million release clause, according to reports in Italy.
A disastrous campaign has seen Los Blancos sit nearer to relegation that first place Barcelona in terms of points.
After nearly three years without splashing out on a major signing, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez is keen to bring in a Galactico at the end of the season.
And Corriere dello Sport believe Icardi is the striker the club are targeting.
Harry Kane, Neymar and Paulo Dybala are among the other big-name frontmen Real Madrid are looking at for the summer.
However, despite his constant declarations of love for Inter Milan, the European champions believe Icardi, 23, is the most attainable.
The Nerazzurri looked on course to make a real title challenge this season and were the last unbeaten team in Serie A, surviving the first 16 matches without a loss.
However, following that first defeat, they have gone into freefall and now face a battle just to make the Champions League.
And should they fail to finish in the top four, it will be almost impossible for Inter to keep hold of him.
Icardi has been one of the best performers in Serie A over the past few seasons and a good showing at the World Cup could even attract other suitors.
