It’s really not going well for Real Madrid this season, is it?
Los Blancos are currently sat fourth in La Liga, a massive 16 points away from their table-topping rivals Barcelona.
And following their dramatic defeat to Villarreal at the Bernabeu on Saturday, midfielder Toni Kroos has admitted the team’s focus is now simply on finishing inside the top four this season and qualifying for the Champions League.
Speaking to BeIN Sports USA, the German said: “We have to focus on qualifying for the Champions League next season.
“We have to think about our current position.
“I think this should be our goal for the remainder of the season.”
Kroos’ statement more-or-less means Madrid have conceded the title to Barca, who seemingly hold an unassailable lead at the top of the league table.
He said: “Sixteen points is very far away and now isn’t the time to think about anything other than the next game.
“We have to start gaining points once more.
“This will allow Real Madrid to get closer to their goal of finishing inside the top four.”
On Twitter, Kroos said there’s still a lot to win this season, with Los Blancos up against Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 of the Champions League next month and Leganes in the next round of the Copa del Rey.
