Freddy Adu speaks out on rumours linking him with another surprise career move

Freddy Adu claimed he hasn't agreed any deals amidst reports of a move to a Swedish third division side

You’d think Freddy Adu closes his eyes and points to a spinning globe to pick his next transfer given his footballing CV.

The one-time prodigy who made his MLS debut at the age of 14 has played in Portugal, France, Greece, Turkey, Brazil, Serbia and Finland to date.

So after leaving United Soccer League side Tampa Bay Rowdies it was no surprise to see the 28-year-old linked with a move to the Swedish third division.

However Adu took to Twitter to claim rumours of a deal to join Oskarshamns, whose home attendances average in the mid-hundreds, premature.

Adu said: “I’m in Maryland right now and I have not spoken to any teams personally.

“There is interest yes but not sure how this rumour got started like it’s a done deal.”

This isn’t the first time Adu has been forced to come out and deny a bizarre career change.

Back in 2015 Adu received plenty of stick for promoting cordless 2-in-1 vacuum cleaners, prompting rumours that he had become some form of hoover salesman.

However he hit back at critics, saying: “So I get paid to promote a device and now that’s what I do for a living. This stuff never gets old.”

Just another day in the life of a former wonderkid.
