Have Nike accidentally confirmed Philippe Coutinho’s transfer to Barcelona?

Sportswear giant were advertising Barcelona shirts with the Brazilian midfielder's name on the back

Nike have given the rumour mill a mighty spin.

An advert appeared on the sportswear giant’s website stating that ‘Philippe Coutinho is ready to light up Camp Nou” before offering punters the chance to buy a Barcelona shirt with the Brazilian midfielder’s name on the back.

Coutinho has been heavily linked with a move to the La Liga leaders since the summer.

Liverpool have been nobly resistant but perhaps Nike’s accidentally-on-purpose marketing push hints at a change of stance in the new year?

The transfer window is set to open again on Monday, when Virgil van Dijk will complete his £75m move to Liverpool from Southampton.

And if Nike are to be believed Liverpool will be recouping that money and then some.

For what it’s worth, Coutinho shirts are still available on Liverpool’s official store, so he’s still an Anfield player.

Though we wouldn’t advise purchasing one until the situation is resolved one way or the other.
