Pep Guardiola gave an epic response when asked if his side are favourites to win the Champions League.
Manchester City are flying domestically, picking up a staggering 19 wins from 20 matches this season — with the other being a draw.
They are also in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup and finished top of their Champions League group with 15 points out of 18.
However, asked whether City were favourites for Europe’s premier competition, Guardiola replied: “Where does [Lionel] Messi play? They are favourites.”
Guardiola was, of course, referring to former club Barcelona, where the Argentine has spent his entire career at.
And Lionel Messi, despite having turned 30 earlier this year, is enjoying arguably the best moment in football so far.
He has scored 15 La Liga goals as Barcelona have stormed to the top of the table without suffering defeat.
While they are also unbeaten in the Champions League — and are certainly among the favourites, even if they aren’t playing with the swashbuckling swagger of City.
Guardiola famously won the competition twice as Barcelona manager, with Messi was central to their success.
And the City boss insists the Argentine will be key once again this season.
