Neil Warnock famously never picked a reserve goalkeeper at Sheffield United because of Phil Jagielka’s ability between the sticks.
Now, aged 35, the reflexes might be slowing slightly but Jagielka is still doing everything to keep his sheets clean.
He put in an incredible double goal-line clearance in a matter of seconds to keep Everton v Chelsea at 0-0.
Tiemoue Bakayoko’s initial shot was repelled before Willian’s follow up from close range was blocked.
It was a ‘you shall not pass moment’ that Gandalf would have been proud of.
And it also completed a nice circle of history.
The last Premier League player to complete two clearances off the line in the same match was none other than Ross Barkley.
Barkley made two goal-line clearances for Everton against Burnley back in April.
So if you see Jordan Pickford or Joel Robles pull up over the festive period fear not.
Jags is more than capable of pulling on the gloves if called upon.
