Simply put, Antoine Griezmann let himself down last night.
The Atletico Madrid forward tweeted out a photo of himself dressed in a full-body ‘blackface’ costume as he prepared to go to a 80’s party.
Despite an instant backlash the photo stayed up for hours until Griezmann took it down and posted an apology.
However his first apology, which read: “Calm down guys, I am a Harlem Globetrotters fan, it’s a tribute,” was also deleted shortly after being posted.
Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.
In the subsequent apology Griezmann said that he understood his tweet was ‘clumsy’ and apologised to anyone who was hurt by his actions.
But Griezmann’s tweets obviously didn’t go unnoticed.
Didn’t any of Griezmann’s friends have a word before he painted himself, let alone stuck a photo up on social media?
It all comes amidst rumours that the Frenchman will leave Atletico in the summer, with a deal reportedly being worked out with Barcelona.
Wherever he goes, his next club would be wise to tell him to stay off social media for a bit.
