Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has added to the mounting transfer speculation surrounding Neymar by insisting the Brazilian would win the Ballon d’Or if he played for them.
The PSG star, who became the world’s most-expensive player in the summer, finished third behind winner Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi at the award ceremony last night.
And now Perez has insisted that the only way Neymar can dethrone the duo is for him to join the Galacticos.
He said: “Being in Madrid would make it easier to win the Ballon d’Or.
“Madrid is a club that gives a big player everything they need to do so.
“Everyone knows I wanted to sign him.”
Perez tried to bring Neymar to the Spanish capital before he opted to join Barcelona from Santos.
He enjoyed a successful four-year stint at the Nou Camp, which included winning the treble in 2015, before his departure in August.
The French giants rocked the football world when they forked out £198million to snatch him from the La Liga side.
However, Neymar was involved in a spat with Edinson Cavani over a penalty back in September.
The 25-year-old is believed to have an uneasy relationship with manager Unai Emery but recently broke down in tears during a press conference when quizzed over the matter.
A switch to the Bernabeu would be hugely controversial given his ties to Barca and would destroy what little rapport he still has with the club’s fans.
Recent reports claim that Emery is due to be sacked by the Parisians.
Neymar’s old Barca boss Luis Enrique is one of the favourites to replace him.
The forward has scored 15 goals and got nine assists in his 18 appearances for PSG.
How many would he get in Paris?
