A year is a long time in football.
And to go a whole year and more without losing a single game is quite remarkable.
As it transpires Gabriel Jesus had not been on the losing side since October 2016.
Just let that sink in.
However, sadly, Man City’s defeat at the hands of Shakhtar Donetsk in Ukraine on Tuesday meant that Jesus’ amazing record came to an end.
So after 42 official football matches without defeat, Jesus finally got a taste of it last night.
The Brazilian has played 32 times for Man City, winning 27 and drawing five, six games for his country and another four for his previous club Palmeiras.
The City striker last had to congratulate the other team as winners when Palmeiras lost to Neymar’s old team Santos at the end of October 2016.
It begs the question of whether Jesus is a world class player and makes the difference for the team or if he’s just been really lucky over the last year.
Either way it is an amazing record not to be on the losing side for over a year.
In that time Jesus has gone from a Brazilian wonder kid plying his trade in south America to one of the most exciting young talents in the world.
His pace makes him an excellent asset for any team, but in this Guardiola side he has a knack of getting into the spaces to simply tap the ball home at the end of moves.
The defeat will keep you grounded, Gabriel.
