Here’s why CSKA Moscow’s goal against Man United was definitely NOT offside

Many thought that the officials had made a shocking decision but they got it spot on

Man United fans were quite happy enjoying the Luke Shaw show until a freak moment spoiled their evening.

The rarely seen left-back was thoroughly impressive in the first half against CSKA Moscow at Old Trafford until a bizarre goal from CSKA Moscow tarnished the home side’s final Champions League group game of the campaign.

With just seconds left on the clock before half-time, Alan Dzagoev broke the deadlock when he deflected Vitinho’s shot off his back and past Sergio Romero.

Many fans thought that the Russian international was in an offside position as Daley Blind was off the pitch…

However, the rules state that players in positions such as Blind’s should be considered active in instances such as this.

In this case, the Dutchman is considered to be on the goal line and therefore playing Dzagoev onside.

This is done to prevent defenders from purposefully stepping out of play to render an opposition player offside.

No excuses on this occasion, United fans.

A quickfire double from Romelu Lukau and Marcus Rashford midway through the second half ensured any concerns over annoying things like rules were vaporised.

United are set to finish top of the group and will be hoping for a favourable draw in the round of 16.
