PSG are purring these days.
After dropping £160 million on Neymar and due to make Kylian Mpabbe the second-most expensive player ever, it doesn’t surprise us they are ripping up Ligue 1.
The MCN front three with Edinson Cavani is scoring goals for fun, 45 goals in their first 14 league games to be exact.
Even Lionel Messi has said the Parisians, along with Man City, are favourites for the Champions League.
But is Mbappe actually living up to his future price tag?
In PSG’s 2-0 win against Monaco, who are hot on their tails level on points with second placed Lyon, the 18-year-old Frenchman missed four clear-cut goal scoring chances.
That is more than any other player has managed in a Ligue 1 match this season.
Neymar and Cavani both got their name on the score sheet and that is usually the prelude to an MCN full house.
Not this time.
Mbappe has scored just four league goals this season, level with Sunderland loanee Wahbi Khazri, despite playing for one of the most rampant teams in Europe.
Maybe Mbappe was holding off against the club that developed him and of which he is currently on loan?
Well what happened in the 72nd minute may make you think Mbappe was favouring his old employers.
Joao Moutinho curled a free kick from the edge of the area and it flicked off the young strikers head and flew past Alphonse Areola.
Thankfully it wasn’t given as an own goal but club captain Thiago Silva did tease the young man that he thought he was still playing for Monaco.
Although Mbappe has strong Monaco links it is unlikely because he a professional and PSG are sending skip loads of cash round to his apartment everyday.
He is only 18 though and there is a lot of pressure on his shoulders.
Good things will come.
