They say form is temporary, but class is permanent.
Forget that – class is Antoine Griezmann.
After going eight long games without scoring, the Ateltico Madrid forward ended his drought in style with an absolute beauty in the Champions League this evening.
Up against Roma in their crucial Group C clash, the Frenchman broke the deadlock beyond the hour mark with a lovely bicycle-kick strike.
Seriously, check this out:
The Spanish giants were heading towards Champions League elimination before the goal – as they desperately needed a win against Roma to keep their hopes of advancing to the last 16 alive.
But they needn’t have worried.
Thanks to Griezmann’s wonder-strike, Atleti went onto win the game 2-0 against the ten-men of Roma – with Kevin Gameiro notching their second soon after.
That means Chelsea – who beat Qarabag 4-0 earlier on – are now top of Group C with 10 points, with Roma currently in second-place with eight.
But Atleti are now just behind with six points, with only one game of the group stage remaining.
It’s certainly been an odd season for Diego Simeone’s side so far.
Much like their cross-city rivals Real, they’ve been well left behind by Barcelona in La Liga – who currently have a ten point lead at the top of the Spanish top-flight.
Los Colchoneros have found it especially hard to win games lately, drawing seven of their last nine fixtures in all competitions.
