Four days ago Charlton’s Jay Dasilva was playing against Truro City in the FA Cup.
But now he’s training alongside Marcus Rashford, John Stones and the rest of England’s senior squad ahead of friendlies against Germany and Brazil.
The 19-year-old Chelsea loanee was asked to join in with England’s preparations after several first-team members pulled out with injury.
Dasilva, who Ian Wright claimed was better than any Premier League left-back two years ago, has represented England from the Under-16s through to the Under-20s.
He’s yet to play for Chelsea, spending the last two seasons on loan at Charlton, but was part of the Blues side that won consecutive UEFA Youth League titles along with Tammy Abraham.
Dasilva was also part of England’s Under-19 squad that won the European Championships in July.
But he wasn’t the only unfamiliar face in England’s squad.
Fulham midfielder Tayo Edun was also called in to train, having been with England’s Under-20 side.
Edun joined Dasilva in the European Championship winning squad and has already made his first-team debut for Fulham, playing against Leyton Orient in August 2016.
The 19-year-old’s stand out performances at the European Championships saw him named in the Team of the Tournament, alongside club-mate Ryan Sessegnon.
Neither Dasilva or Edun will be part of England’s squad to face Germany and Brazil.
Although, saying that, Southgate is only a couple of injuries away from having to ask Emile Heskey to dust off his boots again, so you never know.
