Why does Antoine Griezmann keep walking away from Atletico Madrid team photos?

The French international has been snapped walking away from his team-mates prematurely on several occasions

Antoine Griezmann has not been his usual self this season.

The Frenchman has been going through a bit of a blip so far this season, but was back to his very best with a spectacular effort against Roma in the Champions League.

However, despite some questioning his form throughout this season, there has been one question on fans’ lips.

Why does Griezmann keep walking away from team photos prematurely?

If you haven’t spotted this slightly bizarre trend, as the Atleti team are lining up prior to kick-off, Griezmann then turns away just as the snapper gets the money shot.

Some believe his apparent eagerness to separate himself from his team-mates is evidence that he is no longer happy at Atleti and is keen on a move away from Madrid.

It’s a metaphor…

However, reports in Spain claim Griezmann’s quick exits have nothing to do with squad disharmony.

Marca suggest that the Euro 2016 Golden Boot winner simply likes to control the match ball before kick-off and, if possible, put the ball in the net.

To be able to do this in time and return the ball to the centre-spot before the referee gets the game underway, he poses for one photo then walks away.

There we have it — a simple case of superstition.

Simeone spoke to Marca about Griezmann’s form this season: “He’s very confused.

“He is not in his best form, but we must support him because the season is long and we will need him towards the end of the campaign.”

Form is temporary; class is permanent.
