Emre Can is almost certain to leave Liverpool next summer.
After spending four years developing him into a fully fledged Germany international, the Reds are set to lose one of their key assets for free.
Can is unlikely to sign a new contract between now and the end of the season and with Juventus one of many clubs keen on him, Jurgen Klopp is considering possible replacements.
And at the top of his shortlist is Leon Goretzka.
Like Can, the Schalke midfielder’s contract expires next summer and the Bundesliga club may cash in this January rather than allowing him to depart for free.
But the Mirror claim Liverpool must fend off Barcelona, Man United and Arsenal if they are to sign Goretzka.
Schalke have built their side around the 22-year-old midfielder, who many tip to be a major force at the World Cup finals in Russia next summer.
Goretzka has been reluctant to sign a new deal at the club due to significant interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Replacing Can with his international team-mate may be viewed as an upgrade by some fans, though if they were to do business in January they may have to enter a bidding war with some very wealthy clubs.
