If we offered you Jay Rodriguez or a Brazil international forward who would you go for?
You’d rightfully ask for some more information, so here goes.
Luan Vieira, dubbed the best player in South America by many pundits, has signed a new contract at Brazilian side Gremio, who you might be familiar with for producing Ronaldinho.
Now while, initially, that might seem like bad news for the many clubs chasing the 24-year-old, including Liverpool, it has actually opened the door for his departure.
Luan’s shiny new contract contains a release clause of between €18-€20million, which is pennies in the current market.
To put that into context, the £15mil it would roughly take to sign Luan was the same amount Britt Assombalonga moved to Middlesbrough for this summer, and less than Stoke paid for Kevin Wimmer.
But why is Luan so highly rated in South America?
The forward is in his fourth season at Gremio and has been capped by Brazil already despite some heavy competition from Neymar and co.
He’s resisted several opportunities to leave domestic football so far, instead committing to Gremio and winning the Copa do Brasil.
Luan was also part of Brazil’s Olympic Gold Medal winning side in 2016 and the Under-20 side that won the Toulon Tournament in 2014.
