Sergio Aguero breaks Manchester City goalscoring record against Napoli

The Argentine struck a brilliant late goal to surpass Eric Brook's record

All hail Sergio Aguero.

You’ll struggle to find a more popular player in the Premier League era than the Argentine who has been terrorising defences since his move from Atletico Madrid six years ago.

And against Napoli tonight the Argentine created some history which seemed an inevitability ever since his first goal against Swansea way back in August of 2011.

In a simply sublime Champions League tie, City had to recover from a goal down to take a 2-1 lead through goals from centre-back pairing Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones.

Napoli levelled from the penalty spot… but then Aguero came to the fore as he has done so many times in his Manchester City career.

After Leroy Sane broke at pace, the 29-year-old collected a loose ball, composed himself and smashed past former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

Watch the goal below:

Not only did the goal put City ahead again on the night, it also made Aguero City’s all-time record goalscorer.

The hitman’s record reads at an astonishing 178 goals in 264 appearances in sky blue, surpassing the great Eric Brook.

Have we ever seen a more clinical finisher in English football?
