It looks like there’s no brakes on Karim Benzema’s bizarre feud with Gary Lineker.
The Match of the Day presenter has seemingly upset the Real Madrid forward, after making comments about his goal-conversion rate with the Spanish giants.
Linker labelled Benzema “a tad overrated” following Spurs’ Champions League clash against Los Blancos at the Bernabeu a fortnight ago.
The former Barcelona striker tweeted: “Is it me or is Benzema a tad overrated? A goal every other game in a team as strong as Real Madrid is nada especial. Decent not great.”
To be fair, he’s not wrong.
Benzema has never been the most naturally prolific goal-scorer, and has particularly struggled to find the back of the net this season, scoring just two goals in 10 games.
Rather surprisingly, the Frenchman hit back at the Walkers Crisps-flogging extraordinaire, saying former players who’ve become journalists should be more sympathetic towards players, as they’ve suffered the “same difficulties” during their careers.
He said: “I find it harder to accept the criticism of former players who have gone on to become journalists and who spread their hatred around.
“They had the same difficulties, but have no solidarity. I feel embarrassed for him, frankly.”
Lineker defended his comments in his latest tweet and even branded Benzema “over-sensitive”.
He said: “Asking questions about football is my job and it’s certainly not ‘spreading hatred’.
“Is it me or is Benzema a tad over-sensitive?”
We’re awaiting your response, Karim.
