In a few years’ time the only football worth watching will take place in China.
The money being pumped into the country’s domestic game is scarcely believable, even by football’s absurd standards.
And it’s not just the foreign superstars of the Chinese Super League who are becoming filthy rich…
The 30-man squad representing Meixian Techland in the third tier of Chinese football have been awarded £3million each for securing promotion.
The players secured their huge bonuses with a 3-1 aggregate win over Shenzhen Ledman to guarantee the club a place in the Chinese equivalent of the Championship next season.
To put this into perspective, Real Madrid players were given bonuses of approximately £1.3million for winning the Champions League.
The owners of the Guangdong-based club made good on their promise to handsomely reward the players if they achieved the club’s goal of promotion.
Players posed with piles of cash following their 1-0 win in the second leg of the decisive tie.
Just imagine how much money they’ll get if they reach the Chinese Super League…
