What do Alessandro Del Piero and Jean-Alain Boumsong have in common?
Not much. Aside from the fact that both played for Juventus. But why is that relevant?
Because both Del Piero and Boumsong will be celebrating Juventus’ 120th birthday on 1 November, with The Old Lady playing Benevento four days later.
You can’t have a birthday without a birthday present, and Juventus’ gift is quite something.
Juve will wear a one-off retro kit for the Serie A clash which just so happens to have been leaked by Footy Headlines.
It’s a nostalgic piece of art.
Aside from the pure aesthetics of the kit, there’s some lovely touches to the retro number.
For a start only 1897 shirts will go on sale to coincide with the year Juventus was founded.
Juventus’ badge will be replaced by three stars to commemorate the 30 league titles won by The Old Lady.
There will be no sponsor in sight as Juventus strip everything back.
What’s not to like?
It’s just a shame Juventus won’t be wearing the shirt for the entire Serie A campaign.
