What’s getting at Luis Suarez?
For years we’ve been used to seeing the Uruguayan laying waste to defences, firstly with Liverpool and now with Barcelona.
Suarez even won the European Golden Shoe award in 2015/16 after pulling off the unthinkable and outscoring both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
But this season has been a very different story.
Suarez has been a pale imitation of his former self in front of goal, scoring just three times in all competitions.
And his torrid recent form continued on Saturday night during the Catalans’ 2-0 win over Malaga at the Nou Camp.
In the second half, Sergi Roberto broke brilliantly from midfield and squared for the former Liverpool hitman to seemingly tap into an empty net:
But Suarez, who is usually so unerring in these kind of scenarios, somehow contrived to scuff his left-footed shot wide of the far post with the goal at his mercy.
Something ain’t right.
Luckily for the Uruguayan Gerard Deulofeu – whose goal shouldn’t have counted – and Andres Iniesta did have their shooting boots on to ensure Barca stayed clear at the top of La Liga.
But Suarez’s performances will be a real concern for Ernesto Valverde.
Are his best days behind him?
