Everton have been accused of lacking fight in recent weeks.

But no such accusations could be aimed at them tonight.

Ashley Williams sparked a mass brawl at Goodison Park during the Toffees Europa League game with Lyon after a ill-judged push on Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes.

Several players immediately squared up to each other and it appeared there was more than your usual handbags as Everton’s skipper defended himself with some lusty blows.

Incredibly, as the incident took place off the pitch, some fans situated in the front rows got involved.

One fan appeared to lay his hands on Lyon players twice while holding a small child…

Somehow Williams escaped with a yellow card as the lenient referee decided to keep the contest at eleven a side.

The fracas energised Everton and just two minutes later they were level on the night courtesy of a powerful Williams header — of course.

However, Ronald Koeman’s troubles returned when Bertrand Traore neatly finished at the near post to restore Lyon’s lead, which they held until the final whistle.
