Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are medical mysteries.
They’ve managed to cut out incredibly successful professional football careers at Ajax, Spurs and Belgium despite being attached at the hip.
Don’t believe us? Just listen to Toby talking about what would happen if he left Spurs.

Alderweireld told DH.be: “It’s difficult for me to play without Vertonghen.
“If I move to another club, he will have to follow me.”
So there you have it. Straight from the horse’s mouth.
Okay, so obviously they aren’t attached at the hip.
Toby spent time away from Jan at Atletico Madrid and Southampton, while Jan spent time on loan at Belgian side RKC Wallwijk.
But it does raise an interesting question about what happens when one of the duo eventually decide to stray from north London.
You’d be hard pushed to find a better defensive partnership in world football.
Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels might have something to say about that, but Verterweireld are genuinely class.
With contract talks stalling since last December and Alderweireld’s contract up in 2019 the window of opportunity is widening.
As 2-for-1 offers go, they don’t come much better.
