This will be worrying news to Liverpool fans.
Croatian centre-back Dejan Lovren has admitted he takes ‘five painkillers’ before every game in a bid to combat his injury woes.
The defender says he has problems ‘all over his body’ in recent weeks with Achilles and back problems affecting him considerably in training in recent weeks.
He told Sportske Novosti: “I have problems with my whole body for the last two weeks, my back and now I have hurt my Achilles tendon.
“I am taking pills so I can play, five before every game.
“I play but I cannot train at all. That’s why I skipped matches against Manchester City and Burnley.”
“It’s not normal to have four of five tablets before each game.”
Not normal at all.
This seems to be becoming a common theme with Liverpool centre-backs after former Reds star Daniel Agger also admitted to having a dangerous addiction to painkillers during his playing days.
It also raises another recurring question… why on earth didn’t Jurgen Klopp by a defender in the summer?
