MESUT OZIL “wants to join Jose Mourinho” at Manchester United, according to reports.
The Arsenal playmaker’s contract expires at the end of the season – and speculation is beginning to mount as to where the World Cup winner will end up.
Ozil has come under intense criticism for his workrate under Arsene Wenger at the North London club, with many fans constantly joking he goes missing in the big games.
But, according to the Mirror, the 28-year-old is open to re-uniting with the Portuguese, who managed him at Real Madrid.
United – as was shown in their 1-0 win over Southampton yesterday – have grown an intense work-rate and tactical discipline under Mourinho.
Which may lead to questions as to exactly how Ozil would fit it at Old Trafford, should he choose to make the move to the North West.
Fellow Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez is also set to leave the Emirates for pastures new at the end of the season, with Manchester City rumoured to be interested.
According to the tabloid, Ozil is highly admired by Mourinho’s coaching staff, as well as the likes of Inter Milan.
The German has been asking the Gunners for £250,000 a week.
And the story could be merely to encourage Arsenal to finally offer the former Schalke and Real Madrid star what he considers to be the right money.
