Man City very nearly COMPLETED FOOTBALL with their first goal against West Brom last night

Pep Guardiola's side nearly scored their first without a Baggies player touching the ball

There are several extremely satisfying things in football.

First halfs ending bang on the 45-minute mark with no injury time? Sure.

But we think Manchester City came agonisingly close to footballing completion against West Brom on Wednesday night.

Pep Guardiola’s side were made to fight for their Carabao Cup win but Leroy Sane’s two goals were enough to earn a 2-1 win.

The flying German winger thumped City ahead in the third minute after Ben Foster had parried Ilkay Gundogan’s volley invitingly straight to his feet.

But, amazingly, Foster’s save was the first touch by any Baggies player in the entire game up until that point.

That means City retained the ball for over two minutes before finally opting to switch from patient build up play to attacking ascendancy, leading to Sane’s goal.

According to City themselves, the team racked up 52 undisturbed touches which ended with Gundogan’s shot being saved by Foster.

Here’s a brief synopsis of how it unfolded…

What’s more, every single City player touched the ball in that sequence, including goalkeeper Claudio Bravo.

If we ever needed evidence that the Guardiola blueprint is rubbing off on his City players it’s this and, despite Foster spoiling the party a bit by denying Gundogan, it really was a goal for the ages.
