Real Madrid have learned from Barcelona’s mistakes.
Barcelona lost the biggest hand of football poker ever seen when PSG met Neymar’s release clause this summer.
But Madrid won’t be going through the same situation with Karim Benzema after the Frenchman signed a new contract.
Not only does Benzema’s contract run through to 2021, by which time he’ll be 33, it also includes a gigantic release clause.
Any club wanting to buy Benzema out of his Madrid contract will have to pay €1billion.
No problem then, if you’ve got £890mil knocking around.
Madrid have been getting their house in order and tying several key personnel down to new contracts of late.
Isco signed a new deal that will see him contracted to Madrid for another five years while Dani Carvajal has also agreed to stay until the end of the 2021/22 season.
Zinedine Zidane, who’s current contract was running out at the end of the season, claims his new deal is done although there’s been no official announcement.
Contract talks are also on the horizon for Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos.
So it’s fair to say Madrid won’t be losing key players on a free contract any time soon.
Cue thousands of Arsenal fans going green with jealousy.
