Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, Isco, _______________?
The shortlist for the 2017 Golden Boy has been announced and six Premier League players are in with a chance of picking up the award.
Italian newspaper Tuttosport established the prize in 2003, with Rafael van der Vaart picking up the honour.
Wayne Rooney, Lionel Messi, Cesc Fabregas, Sergio Aguero, Anderson, Alexandre Pato, Mario Balotelli, Mario Gotze, Isco, Paul Pogba, Raheem Sterling, Anthony Martial and Renato Sanches have since followed.
Man United’s Marcus Rashford, Man City’s Gabriel Jesus, Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Spurs defender Kyle Walker-Peters are joined by Liverpool duo Joe Gomez and Dominic Solanke on this year’s list.
But they face some pretty fierce competition.
La Liga have a further six representatives in Aaron Martin (Espanyol), Ousmane Dembele (Barcelona), Borja Mayoral (Real Madrid), Emre Mor (Celta Vigo), Theo Hernandez (Real Madrid) and Enes Unal (Villarreal).
The Bundesliga’s nominees are Jean-Kevin Augustin (RB Leipzig), Benjamin Henrichs (Bayer Leverkusen), Reece Oxford (Borussia Monchengladbach) and Christian Pulisic (Borussia Dortmund).
Serie A are well represented thanks to Rodrigo Bentacur (Juventus), Federico Chiesa (Fiorentina), Amadou Diawara (Napoli) and Gianluigi Donnarumma (AC Milan).
But the favourite can be found in Kylian Mbappe (PSG) who heads up Ligue 1’s list along with Allan Saint-Maximim (Nice) and Youri Tielemans.
Two from the Eredivise in Kasper Dolberg (Ajax) and Steven Bergwijn (PSV Eindhoven) round off the 25-man shortlist.
So who’s your money on?
(Oxford and Mor are currently on loan from West Ham and Dortmund respectively).
