Everyone loves a good conspiracy theory, no matter how bonkers they may seem.
After Ousmane Dembele’s unfortunate injury just weeks into his Barcelona career fans were quick to point out something rather spooky.
The former Borussia Dortmund winger – technically the second most expensive player on the planet until Kylian Mbappe’s permanent move to PSG goes through – is expected to miss up to four months with a hamstring injury.
Not the ideal start to life in Catalonia.
Dembele limped off after just 24 minutes against Getafe on Saturday and eagle-eyed fans were quick to spot that the incident was eerily similar to Neymar – the man he replaced at the Nou Camp – and his first injury in a Barcelona shirt.
In fact, aside from the type of injury itself, it was almost a carbon copy.
Neymar suffered an ankle injury that kept him out for a month in a 2-0 win back in January 2014.
But not only did the Dembele incident happen against the same opponents on the same pitch, it also happened in exactly the same minute, on the same flank and while it was the same scoreline.
They even wear the same squad number.
If that’s not proof of some omniscient Illuminati-type power ruling over us all then I don’t know what is.
Barcelona survived a further scare when Paulinho – yes that one from Spurs – scored his first Catalans’ goal to grab a late winner in a 2-1 victory.
