Back to winning ways for Jose Mourinho, more pain for Ronald Koeman.
Man United picked up three points at home to Everton courtesy of Antonio Valencia’s thunderclap and a shower of late goals.
Don’t know if Sky Sports mentioned it much but apparently Romelu Lukaku and Wayne Rooney used to play for the teams they were AGAINST today — fancy that?
United’s all-time top scorer was given a warm reception by his former fans as the Old Trafford faithful chanted Rooney’s name as he was subbed in the second half before Everton conceded three late goals.
Lukaku however, was not afforded the same luxury.
The away end were quick to jeer the Belgian forward and booed him throughout the 90 minutes.
But Lukaku came out on top as a late flurry of goals heaped misery on a struggling Everton side.
The former Toffee assisted and scored in quick succession before Anthony Martial won and converted a penalty to make it 4-0.
First, Lukaku played in Henrikh Mkhitaryan after Ashley Williams gave the ball away in a dangerous area.
The Armenian midfielder confidently slotted past Jordan Pickford to double the lead and Lukaku was quick to aim a shushing gesture in the direction of the away end.
Then when he prodded home a goal of his own five minutes later, he cupped his ear towards the same fans.
Safe to say he is most definitely now a red.
Still, what a nice gesture from United to wait from their all-time top scorer’s departures before opening the floodgates.
