Real Madrid’s four-man transfer shortlist is a who’s who of Europe’s best forwards

The La Liga champions are eyeing up a new Galactico centre-forward and have set their sights high

Not content with arguably the strongest squad in world football, Zinedine Zidane has his eye on a new Galactico.

Karim Benzema’s injury and Gareth Bale’s shaky form has convinced the Real Madrid boss that he needs to bolster his attacking options.

Cristiano Ronaldo remains a superhuman goalscoring machine but while both Isco and Marco Asensio are world-beaters, they aren’t true centre-forwards.

So then, who is in the running to be Madrid’s new No9?

Let’s take a look at the four main contenders, according to the Sun

1 Robert Lewandowski

Just the thought of having to play against Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Ronaldo and the great Polish forward is enough to make most La Liga defenders consider retirement.

Lewandowski’s lowest goal haul of the last six seasons is his tally of 25 in 2014/15 with his highest being last season’s total of 43 goals in 47 games.

How likely is he to join Madrid?

Not particularly.

Now 29-years-old he wouldn’t be a long-term replacement for Benzema (of the same age) and Bayern Munich are one of few teams in the world capable of resisting Madrid’s might.

Though the two clubs have done business in recent years — Toni Kroos, Xabi Alonson, James Rodriguez, etc…

2 Andrea Belotti

Next up we have Europe’s hottest youngster not already a Bernabeu resident.

The 23-year-old Italian grabbed headlines in Serie A last season with 26 goals for an average Torino side.

The chances of the Turin club being able to hold on to him much longer are slim despite their astronomical valuation.

How likely is he to join Madrid?

His style doesn’t exactly scream Ronaldo’s perfect partner but he has age on his side and is a prolific finisher.

Would probably be content sitting on the bench more than the other candidates on this list.

3 Alexis Sanchez

Not a traditional No9 but a world-class forward with plenty of goals under his belt.

The Chilean superstar is desperate to leave Arsenal and would undoubtedly be a success at the Bernabeu but he’s not exactly what they’re are looking for.

How likely is he to join Madrid?

Very unlikely.

Sanchez is reportedly keen on a reunion with Pep Guardiola at Man City and his Barcelona links make a move to Madrid even less feasible.

4 Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

The Borussia Dortmund forward is often thought of as a speed merchant but he’s so much more than that.

His clinical finishing and predatory movement in the box (he scores a surprising amount of tap-ins) saw him finish above Lewandowski in the Bundesliga scoring charts last season.

How likely is he to join Madrid?

The favourite by some distance.

Aubameyang has never been shy about his desire to play for Madrid and was open about his possible wavering loyalty last summer.

The Gabonese international has long been earmarked as a future Madrid player and at 28-years-old the time is now if Zidane is to get the best years out of a phenomenal talent.

Four fine options, your move, Zizou.
