Manchester United have been dealt a major injury blow after seeing Paul Pogba leave Old Trafford on crutches.
The stand-in United skipper was forced off in the 18th minute with a suspected hamstring injury and replaced by Marouane Fellaini.
Early signs suggest he is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines during a busy period for Jose Mourinho’s men.
Mourinho confirmed the midfielder would miss the weekend’s clash with Everton.
He said: “I don’t know, it looks like a hamstring injury.
“By experience it’s a muscular bigger or small and that could stop him playing for a few weeks.
“The squad are for this. We don’t cry. No Paul for Sunday.
“We have [Andre] Herrera, [Michael] Carrick, [Marouane] Fellaini and [Nemanja] Matic.”
Pogba went in for a challenge and received a kick.
He immediately felt the back of his leg and signalled to the bench that it was serious.
Mourinho ordered his go-to man Fellaini to get stripped and ready for action to signal the end of the night for Pogba.
Manchester United beat Basel 3-0 thanks to goals from Fellaini, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford.
