AMSTERDAM TO OLDHAM

One of the strangest journeys of the transfer window has been completed

Queensy Menig has moved from Ajax to Nantes and immediately joined League One side Oldham on loan

Four years ago Queensy Menig outshone the likes of Marcus Rashford to be named the Aegon Future Cup best player.

He was a young winger at Ajax, a club famed for progressing talented footballers through their academy into their first-team.

International caps with Holland followed at Under-17, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level and his career looked to be on track, with an Ajax debut coming in 2014.

So, while Rashford is on international duty with England, having taken the Premier League by storm, where is Menig?

The 22-year-old has signed on loan with Oldham Athletic.

That would be strange enough, but to make the deal more peculiar it was only on transfer deadline day that Menig left Ajax for Nantes.

He looks delighted with the move

From Amsterdam to a beautiful city in western France to Oldham in a matter of days. What a journey.

Of course Oldham is a famous for it’s cotton industry, which at one point produced more than France and Germany combined.

But life on the field isn’t going to be easy for Menig.

Oldham have lost every league game this season and only find themselves off the foot of the table by virtue of Northampton Town’s goal difference.

While he may once have trained with Natahan Ake he’ll now have to get used to battling Anthony Gerrard and Ryan McLaughlin.

At least the weather will be nice.
